Human Trafficking Facts

  • There are an estimated 27 million slaves in the world
  • 600,000-800,000 humans are trafficked internationally
  • An estimated 14,500 to 17,000 are trafficked into the US
  • Sex Trafficking has occurred in all 50 states
  • An estimated 25,000 women are victims in Chicago every year
  • Illinois generates the 5th highest number of calls to the Human Trafficking Hotline
  • An estimated 1.2 million children are trafficked for sex
  • The average age is 13

This horrific crime is happening in many countries, but is also happening right here in the United States. Women and young girls are are being bought, sold, and smuggled like modern-day slaves. My goal is to post information about global human trafficking issues as well what's happening right here in the Chicagoland area including strides that are being made by the government regarding this issue.
